2020 Gun Deaths vs Drunk Driver Deaths Zion Patriot, July 19, 2022July 19, 2022 According to the FBI, in 2020 there were 8,695 people killed (homicide) with a firearm of any type. In the same year, according to the NHTSB, there were 11,654 people killed in accidents involving a drunk drivers. Yet every time we hear about a high profile shooting it is followed by calls to ban guns “for safety”. Where are the calls to ban cars and / or alcohol? Car accidents involving an alcohol impaired driver happen 1.34 times more than all gun homicides. If an impaired driver is responsible for killing someone we focus on the person, not the object that was used. However, when it comes to a person using a gun to kill someone the focus quickly turns to blaming the object.
