ATF Form 4 Quick Turnarounds? Zion Patriot, March 27, 2024April 9, 2024 It seems that the ATF is turning Form 4 applications within a few days currently, rather than the 1-year plus wait time that we have seen in the recent past. Is this a good time to buy an NFA item – specifically a suppressor? Does a bear poop in the woods? If you have been thinking about buying a suppressor, right now might be the best time since the NFA was enacted in 1934. Ok, maybe that was a bit hyperbole, but over the course of the last several years if you wanted to purchase a suppressor you could expect to wait a year or more just for the paperwork approval. You still have to pay that pesky $200 tax stamp, and you still have your paperwork filed with the ATF, but until the NFA is either repealed or legislation is passed to remove suppressors from the NFA, then now is the time to strike. For those who are holding out for the NFA to be repealed or suppressors removed, you should still encourage as many people to buy as possible. Perhaps we can get the supreme court to rule on suppressors as “common use” if enough people buy them, which would protect them under the Heller decision. Yeah, I am probably dreaming here. So if you have been thinking about a suppressor, don’t mind ponying up the extra $200 for the tax stamp or having it registered with the ATF, then absolutely, now is a great time to get yours. 2A News
