Call Your Senators

Now that H.R.1808 has narrowly passed the House, it goes to the Senate for debate and a vote. With the senate evenly divided (the Vice President casts the deciding vote in the event of a tie) it is critical that you reach out to your state’s Senators and urge them to vote against H.R.1808.

When contacting your state Senators please be courteous, but firm. Remind them they swore an oath to uphold and defend the entire constitution (not just the parts they agree with or like). Let them know that this vote is critical to preserving our constitutional republic and everything we stand for as a nation.

Once the senate takes up this bill, it will likely be filibustered, which means that it will need 60 yea votes before it can be sent to the floor for a vote. If 10 republicans decide to vote for this travesty of a bill in the filibuster, it will pass the senate and you can rest assured that Biden will sign it into law.

Unfortunately, there are a few Republican senators that we know cannot be counted on to preserve and protect the constitution, namely:

  • Marsha Blackburn
  • Susan Collins
  • Lindsey Graham
  • Mitch McConnell
  • Lisa Murkowski
  • Mitt Romney

Even if you think your Senator will vote against H.R.1808 please call them anyway. To get your Senators’ contact information please visit https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm select your state from the drop down and you will get a photo and phone number for each of your two senators. Let’s flood their phones with calls urging them to vote against this bill. They represent us, the people of their state. If they hear from more people asking them to vote against the bill than for it they may actually do the right thing and vote the will of those they represent. You will probably not speak directly with your senator, you will likely speak with an aide or an intern. Again, please be courteous – these are our fellow humans and deserve to be treated with respect.

Following are some suggested talking points to use when calling your Senator:

  • Your Senators swore an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution and H.R.1808 is a direct violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. (The right of the PEOPLE to KEEP and BEAR arms shall NOT be INFRINGED).
  • The Supreme Court has ruled in Miller, Heller and Bruen that we have the right to KEEP and BEAR arms and that firearms in common use are protected under the Second Amendment. The firearms that H.R. 1808 seeks to ban are in common use with over 20 million estimated to be owned by U.S. Citizens. These firearms are used for recreation, hunting as well as protection every day in America.
  • The firearms they are seeking to ban are selected based primarily on cosmetic or ergonomic features. These guns can only fire a single round with each trigger pull.
  • According to a CDC study, Firearms are used defensively between 500,000 and 3 million times each year. (see https://www.zionpatriot.com/cdc-defensive-use-of-guns-study/)

  • Those who are willing to sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.
