Harris Wants Gun Buybacks

In her remarks delivered at a State Department luncheon earlier in the day with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Kamala Harris said,

“As we gather details, we must continue to speak truth about the moment we are in, in our country today, the leading cause of death of American children is gun violence. Gun violence has terrorized and traumatized so many of our communities in the United States.

“And let us be clear, it does not have to be this way — as our friends in Australia have demonstrated”

In the 1990’s, Australia instituted a Mandatory “Buyback” program for guns in their country. The government gave residents cash for guns. However, as this was a mandatory program, this equated to a confiscation. But it was ok because the government gave the citizens money for what they were taking, right?

Well, since Australia does not have the right to keep and bear arms in their constitution, then it was allowed. But here in the US the government does not have that authority. However, that does not keep our politicians from talking about it.

First of all – the government can’t “Buy back” what they didn’t sell in the first place. Calling it a buy back is a sneaky way to hide the real goal: confiscation. Second, Where do you think the government gets the money for a “buyback”? While it is true that as of late our government is just printing money, ultimately it comes from us, the citizens. I would rather keep my guns and my money.

But what would that look like? There are over 400 million guns in the US. If the government were to pay out $100 for each gun (which is no where near enough for many of the guns out there) it would carry a staggering cost of $40 billion dollars – the same amount we sent to Ukraine. However, many of our guns are worth well over $100 and most citizens would not be willing to turn them in for such a pittance.

Not to mention, how could they enforce this? Would ATF agents go door to door looking for guns? I wish them luck in that endeavor if they do. Remember what happened the last time government tried to take away our guns? Let’s just say it wasn’t just a little tea spilled in the harbor…
