Protect Our Schools Zion Patriot, August 12, 2022October 16, 2023 With the rash of school shootings in the last few years there have been a lot of calls to ban guns and further the gun control agenda. However, gun control does not actually prevent gun violence. If it did, cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York where some of the strictest gun control rules are in existence would be some of the safest cities in the nation. Rather than more strict gun control rules, there needs to be a focus on preventing these crimes. Starting out by understanding why we are seeing a rise in these crimes and what steps can be done to prevent them would go a lot further than arbitrary rules. Here are few suggestions on where to start: Broken families / kids not raised with a father, medication side effects, bullying, social media, etc. However, until we can figure out why these shootings are happening and what can be done to prevent them before they happen, we should be hardening our schools. Secure the entrances and exits during school hours, posting armed guards at each and patrolling hallways. Understanding that some teachers are willing to be armed and trained, we should allow those teachers to do so. However, this should not be mandatory. Since police forces are not large enough to post officers at every single school, the states could call on the national guard and other armed services to provide armed guards that could patrol the hallways. There are veterans and retired police who would also be willing to volunteer to patrol our schools in order to protect our most valuable citizens, our children and our future. Rather than trying to come up with reasons why something can’t be done, lets focus on real world solutions that can help prevent the worst violence against our kids. Providing our schools with the protection from these perpetrators will not only make our schools safer, but will also help to protect our right to keep and bear arms, rather than eroding it further with rules that won’t work.
